This artwork facilitates an encounter for inclusion and reconciliation with the mineral world, especifically with coal. It’s a space in which the public will rediscover its qualities of beauty, biogenesis, cosmology and mysticism, and see beyond the commodity, the fuel and the human conflicts that surround its exploitation. They will ask themselves for what they really know about carbon, king of life elements, appreciate its geometry, texture, and colour, and will listen to a sounds story that suggests a hypothetical past and future determined by our chosen relationship with minerals, specifically fossils like coal, which bases the development model that we’ve been unable to reconduct and overcome. This piece is part of a series called “Intramineral Light” which draws attention to forgotten, ignored and excluded spaces that host processes, knowledges and beings whose existence and information may be useful to transform our spatial and coexistence paradigm, thus coping better with an unprecedented planetary crisis.
