ABOUT THE ARTWORK
314 Performance, 2017-2018 Digital performance, 50 x 40 in (125 x 100 cm) On Thursday, October 12, 2017 I started a digital performance, as an homage to the mysterious number Pi (∏=3.14...), namely the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter! Every day at 3:14 (usually P.M.) I would take a shot of my iPhone screen, recording it, and organizing the shots later on in a digital file on my computer. There were 314 screenshots arranged in a 15 x 21 rectangle (=314 + 1 holding the file's title, date, media, size). This digital performance ended on Monday, August 20, 2018. .... UPDATE: on March 14 (The Pi Day!), 2019, Emma Haruka Iwao and a Google team computed Pi to 31.4 trillion digits using 1,000 computers for 4 months! ... The string 03271956 (my birthday) occurs at position 67,703,649 counting from the first digit after the decimal point.
