"Benjaman Kyle" was the alias chosen by an American man who has severe amnesia. On August 31, 2004, he was found, naked and injured, without any possessions or identification, next to a dumpster behind a Burger King restaurant in Richmond Hill, Georgia. This extract from Wikipedia encouraged me to produce a work that provokes viewers to question what their identity is built upon. Be it simply identification papers, or perhaps it is more dependent on the perception other people have of oneself, the clothes one wears, the attitude one bears etc. The portrait of the man takes the form of a chameleon to suggest the ever-changing forms one's identity might take - however due to his condition he himself doesn't know who he is, leaving the chameleon confused, conflicted and fuming with potential energy that can never be released.
