Mona Costa-Mauri produces hand-made, unique portraiture commissions, small and large-scale, for people around the world. I began drawing at a very young age. I have a lifelong passion for creating wonderfully unique pieces and I take a lot of pride in each piece. I found my love for collage in art school and the Xerox machine. I draw on my exposure to and experience within the art world to create original and bespoke artworks for clients around the world, with a portfolio spanning over 35 years. The surface of each portrait holds much visual information, investigating the details of a subject’s personality, beyond just a typical rendering or illustration. For me, this explorative process encompasses themes such as the relationship between artist and subject, how the viewer becomes involved in looking at a picture, and the over-arching range of emotions within the field of portraiture. Many of her clients comment on how uplifting it feels to commission a portrait that is so personal to them (and often includes emotions that feel difficult to entrust to another) and express how it has felt being see a work unfold. As well as being a unique gift, my pieces capture scenes, moments, and experiences in a unique way, lasting a lifetime.
