I have been a practising artist for over 30 years. I come from a fine art and film making background, graduating from Reading University in 1985 as a painter. In the 1980’s and 1990’s I exhibited work with the support of Wolfson College, Oxford University, and Milton Keynes Arts Trust and took part in several open studio exhibitions. During a life changing trip around America in the mid 1990’s, I started to use photographic collage and began making films in the 2000’s. I have made short films (both narrative and experimental) since then. My film work has been presented by the British Council and funded by Southern Arts. I worked for over 20 years in the film industry in education and training. I returned to painting in 2013 just after turning 50 in what was a pivotal year for me. I started to paint digitally using tablets and stylus around 2016 and this has become my main practise. I work from landscape as a starting point, from photographs, notes and drawings made on the spot. The image develops organically, in layers, as memory and invention take over the process. The final image is an imagined landscape, an evocation of a particular place and a particular feeling. Memory allows me redraw and reimagine the landscape, and that gives me the licence to invent.
