ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I made this art to dissect my attraction to a young Marine I saw on Instagram and men like him. It can be very strange to reconcile attraction and romance, especially when you're inexperienced like me due to introverted tendencies. Social media has a way of creating the illusion of actionable attraction as we all tend to put our own ideas into an image of a person to fit our ideal partner. This is not dissimilar to our naming of monthly full moons, as there are multiple nicknames for full moon phases of each month ranging from Cold Moon and Wolf Moon of Indigenous Americans to the Yule Moon of Europeans. All of these names are truly connected to coincidental or natural occurrences and thus only became prominent due to perceived notions of their respective culture's earlier times. Only when you dissect the true origins of your notions and recognize the tangible evidence do you see the figments are not of the subject but of you, like a moon lit reflection in the lake.

My name is Cambridge Phillip Jerome Matthews. I am a Cartoonist and Illustrator born in Landstuhl, Germany but raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana since I was 6 years old. I am an African American US Army brat who is part of the LGBTQIA+ community as well. I learned under my elementary and high school art teacher Kym Klaus about Visual arts and from amazing faculty of McNeese State University including Art Historian Bridget McDaniel, Book Maker Heather Kelly, Landscape Artisan Meghan Fleming, Figurative painter/artist extrodinare Gerry Wubben, Graphic Designer and Illustrators Larry Schuch and Marty Bee and more! I love the small community college staff and classmates I met there and I admire all those who teach as a profession so forgive my overenthusiasm but I find my simple works are genuine because of the support and care my teachers and loved ones gifted me to succeed as an artist. I believe in using myvart to help people understand each other better not to manipulate and so I hope that if you desire s print for your office or as a gift it connects you to the people xpu love no matter how distant they are.
