Kinari is a contemporary mixed media artist creating expressive portraits that explore the connection between human emotion and nature. Working with watercolor, charcoal, Chinese ink, and organic materials such as leaves and aged paper, her pieces combine raw texture with delicate detail. Her work focuses on the human face as a landscape of memory, vulnerability, and transformation, where natural elements reflect the cycles of life. Each piece is intuitive and layered, balancing control and spontaneity. Kinari’s collectors are drawn to the emotional depth, tactile surfaces, and organic aesthetic of her work. Daniela Frank (b. 1971, Germany), known artistically as Kinari, is a contemporary mixed media artist based in Spain. Her work focuses on expressive portraiture that explores the relationship between the human condition and the natural world. Working with mixed media techniques including watercolor, charcoal, graphite, Chinese ink, and organic materials such as leaves, coffee, and aged paper, Kinari creates textured, layered compositions that emphasize emotion, memory, and transformation. Her portraits treat the human face as a landscape—marked by time, experience, and inner life—where each line and surface reveals a deeper narrative. Her artistic approach combines figurative art with organic abstraction, often incorporating natural elements as metaphors for impermanence, growth, and the cycles of life. Materials such as dried leaves and book pages introduce a tactile dimension, connecting personal identity with collective memory and the passage of time. After more than two decades living in Spain, Kinari’s work reflects a cross-cultural perspective shaped by both Northern European and Mediterranean influences. In her first solo exhibition, she sold 15 original works, marking an early validation of collector interest in her practice. Through her work, Kinari invites viewers to reflect on human vulnerability, resilience, and our connection to nature, expressed through raw textures, natural tones, and intuitive mark-making.
