I am Sergio Aranda, a visual artist of Spanish nationality, though I was born in Switzerland. My life journey has taken me through cities like Geneva, Madrid, Paris, and now Barcelona, my home. Each of these metropolises has indelibly shaped my art. As an artist, my creativity is deeply influenced by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, which finds beauty in the imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. This vision is reflected in my fascination with "urbex decay," where I find a sublime aesthetic in corrosion and wear. In some of my works, I merge gold, representing splendor, with rust, a symbol of transformation in the journey of life. The rough textures, worn surfaces, and patterns evoke the hidden stories of our existences. To capture the worn aesthetic I seek, I use techniques such as paint layering, scraping, sandblasting, and acid washing. However, my art goes beyond visual appeal; it is a means to delve into deep themes like time, transformation, and decay. When you interact with my work, you are not just looking at an image, but experiencing a reflection on how things evolve and age in our contemporary world. I am fascinated by the tension that arises from integrating industrial and corroded elements into my art. This contrast invites reflection on the fragile yet enduring nature of our environment. My works capture the essence of transformation, prompting reflection on the ephemeral nature of life. The most exciting aspect of my art is how it challenges conventional notions of beauty. I find beauty in corrosion and transformed materials, offering a fresh perspective that redefines aesthetics. My art bridges the past and present, reminding us that beauty can emerge even in decay. In essence, my artistic journey aims to push boundaries, inviting you to reconsider your concept of beauty and to celebrate the unexpected in all its forms.
