The story of how slavery started in Badagry inspired me. This would connect people to the art, as it breathes the historical feeling of what the offsprings of those who were enslaved then looks like now. It’s a new era for their offspring. I choose the medium because I’m representing the look of an African, especially the beauty that comes with our skin, the hairdo, and the cowries as well. These are important features in my art. I also use different colors in the background to represent situations in our lives as humans. Same applies to those who were enslaved. I choose the subject matter because “For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others” - Nelson Mandela
