My passion is aesthetics. I’m driven by the beauty of baroque-era painting, classical sculpture, and modern Swiss graphic design. I spend a lot of time on the computer. Part of my childhood was completely devoid of an internet modem, and the latter part was completely conjoined with one. I’ve grown up alongside personal computers and the internet. There is no way to remove the indelible influence technology has had on my artmaking process, so I’ve just decided to embrace it. Likewise, my parents were not artists, or even that familiar with art. They were, however, proud Italian Americans, and as you’d expect, the art books I pored over as a kid were of renaissance artists, particularly Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo. I had barely any exposure to modernism or post modernism until my art history classes in college. Great art to me has always been representative and classical, and, much like technology, the influence classical art has had on my artmaking process is pretty fundamentally ingrained. I draw inspiration from baroque paintings and couple those very classical techniques and compositions with modern typography, all presented on heavily Swiss-gridded layouts. Through the words I screen print onto the canvas, I pepper in my own thoughts on the socio-politics of our time. I see it as a conversation that I can have with the viewer of my work. I’ve got a lot of opinions on things, so let’s talk. -
