This piece is inspired by the physical presence of the artist at work — the studio as a battlefield of ideas. The use of worn jeans as the central form references the body, labor, and time: clothes that absorb movement, effort, and memory. The splintered sticks and paint-splattered surface echo the ...

Dmitry Bukiya (b. 1966, Moscow, Russia) I am a second-generation artist specializing in mixed-media painting and Pop Art, inspired by my father, Vladimir Bukiya. From an early age, I felt a profound emotional connection to art, which continues to drive me to explore diverse styles and mediums. In 1984, I graduated from Moscow Art School with a degree in the goldsmith’s department, where I honed my technical skills and deepened my understanding of art history and techniques. My work often transforms old fabrics and materials, blending them with paint, text, and mixed media to create vibrant Pop Art pieces. This process evokes nostalgia, personal memory, and growth, allowing me to explore identity and celebrate the stories embedded in each material. By reimagining everyday objects, I honor the past while expressing my own vision and creativity. I am fascinated by the human condition and the passage of time. Using a combination of acrylic paints, found objects, and digital media, I create layered compositions that explore themes of memory, loss, and renewal. Each piece becomes a dialogue between past and present, inviting viewers to contemplate their own experiences and connections. Inspired by my father’s work, I strive to evoke emotion through color, texture, and form. My process is both deliberate and intuitive, often beginning with a single image or idea that evolves through experimentation. Ultimately, my goal is to create art that resonates on a deeply personal level, sparking conversations about identity, resilience, and the beauty of imperfection—while fostering a sense of community through shared experiences of inspiration, joy, and reflection.
