Born in 1982 in a small town in Alabama, he began to express himself creatively as soon as he was old enough to hold a crayon. Encouraged by his mother, he studied briefly under an art tutor when he was a child, and upon entering college he began to study art formally. As an art major he quickly became disenchanted with art education and decided to instead start a career as a teacher. It was while working as an art teacher in his mid 30s that he was encouraged by a fellow teacher and mentor to try his hand at painting, something he had not done since college. It was under this advice that Ric fell in love with creating again. He has been producing work ever since. When it comes to describing his style, Jordan is somewhat of an artistic explorer, creating works that range from stark natural portraits, to chaotic text laden canvases. Some works showcase a minimalist sensibility while others are a maximalist, layered, visual stream of consciousness. Primarily a painter, Jordan creates works in both oil and acrylic, often adding elements of collage to both, resulting in works that are a hybrid of realism and experimental expressionism. While the style of his works may differ to various degrees, the through-line to his work is that each piece showcases a reverence for nature and a commentary on contemporary life. One of the most common themes he explores is the struggle of navigating modern life in the face of information overload. This is why many of his works display a tension between natural simplicity and textured, expressive brushwork. With any luck his work will speak to a modern audience and resonate with viewers.
