About The Artwork
These fishing boats in Kirinda harbour have so much character. I couldn't stop looking at them and took far too many photos. After reviewing all the photos, I chose to Illustrate the one that captured all the elements I took in on that day – the colours, the condition of the boats, and how quiet and still it was at the harbour. Inspired by the great Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (but not able to imitate), I take one of my photos and create an illustrated version which reflects a 'story' I imagine about the scene. Limited Edition print, 1 of 20. Signed and numbered with Certificate of Authenticity. Image printed on 320g 100% cotton rag, French cold press archival paper with a pleasant natural shade. 50 mm of white margin around illustration.

I was seven or eight when I went on a school trip to a park, and it was there that I first remember taking a photo. My dad had lent me a box brownie for the excursion and that day left quite an impression on my imagination. I realised I could freeze a moment in time and end up with a permanent record of whatever grabbed my attention. That feeling has never left me and I have taken photos of anything that interested me ever since. I have also been very fortunate to be selected as one of the winners of a Corbis ‘Creatives behind the Lens’ competition. I love capturing a fleeting image, a moment passed and the images I create are based on photos I have taken. Afterwards, these photos inspire me to create an ‘alternative’ closer to the feeling I had when I took the original photo. Limited Edition Giclee Prints are produced on 320gsm, 100% cotton rag.
