ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My art is grounded in realism and has been influenced by the subjects and suggestive line work I find in the etchings of Piranesi and James McNeill Whistler and the spontaneity and craft that I see in the watercolors of John Sargent and the dry brushwork of Andrew Wyeth. Their art makes an emotional connection and puts the viewer in the moment, which arouses a strong feeling about a particular setting or place, a goal I heartily share in my work.

Brad Neal is a drawer and painter who was an architect for over 40 years. After retiring from the Irvine Company as an architect in 2014, Brad pursued his lifelong interest in art full-time. He went back to school at LCAD where he earned a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Drawing and Painting in 2017. His art is grounded in realism and focuses on compelling local sights as well as favorite places and settings that he has discovered while working and traveling over the years, both domestically and abroad. A Laguna Beach Festival of Arts exhibitor since 2018, Brad has received many awards for his work which has been exhibited in numerous juried art shows and is held in collections throughout the country.
