ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I have explored the creation of large scale immersive media that takes the viewer participants into new worlds of visual experiences. Born in Pittsburgh, exited the womb in a Steelers hat, Departed 'the Burgh' at 17, toured Europe for a year studying the major high and low points of Western Civilization's, culture. Well aware of Chiang Kai-Shek's response to France's Charles de Gaulle's asking what he thought of France's impressive history of art; "Well, it's a start...", I decided to study Western Art and Architecture. I pursued; painting, print making, environmental design, interactive architecture, computer generated film, virtual reality, augmented reality, lack of reality, media and immersive experiences. Those explorations had a commonality; to allow the participant to experience an altered state of being or expanded awareness, if you will. Moving through a more Eastern, reductive state of exploration and reflection I decided to return to roots and posed the question; can I recreate that experience using a single piece of water color paper and colored inks, while conceptualizing the history of the meditative mandala and employing the organicity of my hand MOC (mit out computer)? Thus, dear reader/participant the answer remains with you.
