ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I moved to Southern California in 1999 and couldn't find a map of the Orange County's communities. It seems no one had bothered to make one. I eventually set about exploring the county on foot and mass transit (and occasionally in a car). Most of my maps are hand-drawn or painted and thus a bit hard to read when reproduced or their scale is changed. So I made this clean, digital version.

Eric Brightwell is an adventurer, explorer, cartographer, guerilla gardener, and writer... Eric Brightwell was born in Iowa City, Iowa but primarily raised in Lexington, Kentucky and Columbia, Missouri. Inspired by fantasy maps and text adventure computer games, he began drawing maps when he was about nine years old. He studied film theory at the University of Iowa where he made a point of visiting every block of every street in the city and its suburbs. After moving to Los Angeles in 1999, he began exploring and drawing maps again, beginning with a map of Elysian Park.
