In this work, I wanted the outcome to be geometric but fluid and graceful. The image, though static, gives the illusion of movement in space. I do not start with any preconceived design in mind, but rather I let the design evolve through trial and error until a beautiful, harmonious design emerges.

I create according to whatever inspires me at the moment. My latest work is a result of my emotional reaction to the beauty and mystery of the primordial, organic, natural world. The works are not realistic depictions of a particular setting but rather imaginative recreations: semi-realistic landscapes, seascapes, and terrain. Aesthetic principles of unity and variation are critical to great art. I develop my sense of composition and structure by creating symmetrical and asymmetrical kaleidoscopic images, abstract and decorative collages, and digital designs. Sometimes the various genres overlap. It is not unusual for my natural world works to incorporate decorative or calligraphy touches. Often my more abstract, geometric paintings have a panoramic landscape, primitive, or cosmic feel. For my paintings and mixed media collages, I use a variety of mediums and techniques: permanent watercolor, specialty papers and fabrics, transparent inks, acrylic and metallic paints because they allow me to achieve a 3-dimensional quality by glazing one color over another or superimposing a sheer paper over a background. Some of my paintings and collages incorporate Yupo, an environmentally-friendly synthetic “paper,” which allows for unusual textural effects, thereby giving a fluid, ethereal character to the work. Paint and ink on Yupo simulates the haphazard yet aesthetically pleasing patterns in the natural world. For my fractal inspired digital works, I use “Chaotica” software and other enhancement tools. “Everything we see passes through the eye to be filed in a little room and then amplified by the imagination” - Matisse
