'Square Piet' Series, Piet Mondrian** Digital, Pop Art Composition and Painting. I have been working simultaneously on a series of artist portraits inspired by the style and art of the subject. These portraits include (some of my favourite) well known classic artists such as Pablo Picasso, Sonia Delauney, Mondrian, Jackson Pollack, Georges Seurat, Hockney, Warhol, Magritte, Richard Hamilton, Tamara De Lempicka, Damien Hirst, Man Ray, Lee Miller and Raushenberg. The final image is a collage and montage of images, photos and art with digital composition and over-painting (with experimental digital brushes), using images from the artists own work and photos of the artist as inspiration for the final piece. This particular portrait is part of a new series based on an ongoing collection of works. The artwork is not meant to be stylised as a De Stijl or neoplasticist composition but rather inspired by this movement - also using the related Bauhaus, Cubist and Futurist Movements as inspiration. He evolved anon-representational form which he termed neoplasticism. This consisted of white ground, upon which he painted a grid of vertical and horizontal black lines and the three primary colors. Mondrian's arrival in Paris from the Netherlands in 1911 marked the beginning of a period of profound change. He encountered experiments in Cubism and with the intent of integrating himself within the Parisian avant-garde removed an 'a' from the Dutch spelling of his name, Mondriaan.
