Much of my work is Argentine Tango themed, as I used to dance and teach professionally. On one level, I strive to create pieces that are simple yet visually elegant. They are meant to give a sense of movement, and invites us viewers to simply appreciate beauty for the sake of beauty. On another level, what I aim to capture is an age-old theme: The connection between men and women. To me, good tango dancing expresses the natural function of the sexes - to work together in harmony. Malevolent yet powerful influences in our society seem determined to redefine this relationship as one centered around competition, ego, vanity, and destructive conflict. Tango, when danced well, is the embodiment of masculine and feminine ideals: Powerful, complementary forces focusing their unique strengths not to glorify themselves, but to elevate each other.

Although I love drawing, I never set out to be a professional artist. I signed up for a Pinterest account, because I learned it would be a good way to drive traffic to my blog. While trying to create pins, I couldn't find royalty-free images that I liked. Nor could I afford to sign up for any of the nice online image libraries out there. So one night I sat down, turned on my iPad, and decided to create my own tango images for my blog pins. Although I always had a tough time drawing human figures, I really enjoyed the process! So I decided to keep going with it. With 20+years of tango experience, I at least had the advantage of understanding my subject matter. As time went on, I've become better at it with consistent practice. Like I said, I’ve always had trouble drawing human figures, because people are SO COMPLICATED! On top of that, I can be pretty impatient and I lose concentration easily. At age 16, I once completed a very good portrait. I knew it was good because some jerk stole it. But since then, random doodles of superheroes represented the bulk of my accomplishments in the realm of figure-drawing. And those usually appeared on pieces of scrap paper around my desk, extra napkins I forgot to put away, or on the margins of my tax returns. My personal favorite was a pencil sketch that depicted Batman teaming up with Gandhi. I don’t remember the exact context of that drawing, though. Anyway… It turns out I like making tango art enough to want to share it with you, and will be posting more original works at this site.
