ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is the first artwork in the series /// Asian x Russian fairytales /// . While working on the details of the kimono I started drawing a crane but it turned out to be a Firebird who lost one of its feathers. I found it interesting to add a bit of a Russian fairytale to the Asian aesthetic. Then I watched the “Last Emperor” by Bertolucci, and the Chinese outfits reminded me of Russian medieval costumes — lots of red, embroidery, patterns, and fur. I felt stronger to continue bridging Asian and native Russian and that's how the following two artworks in the series came to life: "Fairest of Them All" and "Secret Lake".

My journey as an artist started in Central Vietnam in a little town Hoi An, famous for its old wooden buildings, lanterns, rice paper drying in the sun and street vendors strolling slowly through the twisted alleys, offering rice and ban beo. Vietnam gave me an endless inspiration for creating and many of my artworks are dedicated to this country and culture.
