I am Noer Cholis, a contemporary mixed-media artist based in Malang, Indonesia. My works explore the symbolic role of the broom (sapu) as an idiom of spiritual cleansing, human resilience, and ecological balance. I graduated from Universitas Negeri Malang with a degree in Art Education, and my works have been exhibited across Indonesia and sold through auction houses such as Sidharta. For me, the broom is more than a household tool, it carries memory, dignity, and ritual. I often draw inspiration from my father, a street sweeper, and from Javanese traditions that reflect harmony with nature. Through my practice, I invite reflection on balance: between the seen and unseen, material and spiritual, human and earth.
