Hilary McCarthy is a Contemporary Painter that lives and works in New York City. She holds a BFA in Painting from Hartford Art School and MFA in fine art at New York Academy of Art. She is currently working on an art history degree at Columbia University. She is an adjunct professor of Drawing and Painting at Laguna College of Art and Design. Her artist residencies include locations in Puglia, Italy, Johnson, VT, and Leipzig, Germany. She paints women in the ocean. Her work evokes the complexities of the human condition where the ocean forms a vast rhythmic backdrop and a metaphor to ups and downs of the human experience through the lens of women.. The narrative of the paintings tests these two interfaces.
