"grasslands" Fine Art Print

I grew up in rural America isolated from other homes and people. My parents worked long hours and my sister frequently stayed with friends. We had no television or record player and no periodicals came to our home. Therefore, I was often alone on a hundred acres of farmland, forests, and mountains with my horse, some sheep, a pond, wildlife, and my imagination. I was so unaccustomed to being with people that I was mute until about age 11. I expressed my feelings and thoughts with my artwork.

I use many different materials in my work from the sticks and stones I played with as a child to paint and collage. I love to change mediums just to see what new things will happen. I like to experiment with color and texture, and I’m always curious about what the materials will do when gently pressured by my hands.

I seldom have a plan for my work. Sometimes I have a vision, but I’m easy about going with what the materials do as my vision is taking shape. I like mistakes and odd combinations.

My art is influenced by the patterns and madness of nature, the forest, and mountains, by the weather, the moon, the smells of animals, and their entertaining personalities.
