About The Artwork
1-800-DIVORICE is one in my "Underground" series of NYC subway images, done in a non-traditional watercolor technique on archival 100% cotton rag. I love the city, but wanted to paint something more unusual than urban landscapes of buildings and bridges. Then I realized: What could be more New York than the subway? The often-seen banner for divorce and debt attorneys makes me wonder who in the car might suddenly be thinking of calling them. The series explores the rushed, off-balance feeling evoked by traveling in a confined subterranean space -- simultaneously mundane yet vaguely menacing.
