This piece was inspired by the first landing of Africans in Virginia in 1619. I wanted to show what their future would be for them and their offspring. The red is symbolic of the bloodshed that has shrouded our history in the US. Cotton defined slavery in the US and that is what makes up the land.

I am a visual artist creating diverse artwork mainly from the African-American diaspora. I started out from a traditional perspective, but now am embracing more modern ways to create and express myself. I still like to do traditional pieces, because I don't want to just do the same type of thing over and over. I must admit I enjoy doing the modern pieces because you are able to be more free and it keeps your artwork current and fresh. My artwork has been purchased by the City of Hampton, VA, various institutions, collectors throughout the US and commissions.
