About The Artwork

Each closure, opens a new path. Start - End... Open - Close... Entrance - Exit... Left - Right... Up - Down… Is the down pushing the up, or is the up pulling the down? It doesn’t matter. It’s all about the balance and the perception of the concrete and abstract dualities. The gateway between what was and what is to come. On original Alphabet City, NY door Inspired by the track “It’s not that bad” by Daniele Ciocio CRAFT This piece is part of the limited Janus 2 piece series. Janus, in ancient Roman religion, is the god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, and endings. He is usually depicted as having two faces, since he looks to the future and to the past.

Tonino Salvini, born in Rome in 1974, began his artistic education at the “Liceo Artistico” in Latina and then at the “Accademia di Belle Arti” in Rome, attending the scenography course.  He specialized in “trompe l’oeil” at the “Bottega dell’Arte” in Rome and, in 1999 got the qualification of “Furnishings, Outfit and Fashion Designer” at the “Istituto d’Arte” in Anzio, Rome. His graphic-pictorial studies took him to an unreal but expressive style, where the emotions are represented through the perception of chromatic combinations and space delimitations. Those emotions, by which he keeps on revealing and transferring his personality, spontaneity and artistic creativity, are one of the major motivations for his work. After various exhibitions in Italy and in Germany, and travels in Latin America, the United States and Europe, he moved to New York, where he currently resides.
