Since the cave paintings, humans have loved to represent wild animals and give them meaning in a way or another. Nowadays, animals continue to act as metaphors and similes and subtly provide the key to profound levels of meaning, which are not superficially evident to the viewer. Through my art I aim to represent metaphoric and moralistic modes of viewing animals adapted to contemporary issues. My passion for both art & animals provides me with a mechanism and the inspiration to reflect on the intersection of animals and culture, folklore and the use of language and its particularities such as Idioms, sayings, rhymes Magpies, one the most intelligent species of birds in the world are also the subject of many superstitions and bad omens. The bird is also the subject of a nursery rhyme borrowed from the folklore in Ireland & the UK. One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret never to be told.

Ireland
Originally from Spain. I have been living in Ireland for over 20 years. I have been creating art in many ways since childhood. Constantly learning and practicing techniques, Initially as an acrylic painter, I developed a passion for oils in recent years. I attended some Classic Atelier training, which has informed my process and given me the tools to develop my body of work. However, I consider myself a mostly self-taught artist. I have worked in healthcare for many years, this role has been a great source of inspiration. It involves embracing people’s uniqueness, actively listening to what is said while carefully observing the subject, in order to understand people’s lives experiences holistically. It is this genuine interest and compassion for all beings that encourages me to create art with meaning. I paint to connect people with themselves and others through the process of reflection and shared emotions. Frequently adding humour to my pieces, to create that shared experience between spectators. My aim is that my art speaks clearly of my fascination for life. Painting allows me to take a moment to translate my views, vision or ideas into something others can see as a wonderful thing, art that speaks to you and brings you joy. In later works I have started to use aluminium composite panels as my chosen surface. My painting process involves carefully building up layers of translucent, semi-opaque oil glazes over an opaque monochromatic underpainting. As much as I like the completion of a piece, I thoroughly enjoy the process, I’m not an impulsive painter. I’m a planner, I carefully research, test, rethink, scrap when needed and adopt a mindset of enjoying the process and encourage curiosity. The process always leads me to gaining valuable insights and many breakthroughs. At times when I am not fully satisfied with results I retry pieces.
