"A Better Country" by Molly McCune signifies a strong yearning to be in a place free of oppression, guilt, shame, sadness, and anger. This piece is about the wide expanse of freedom, infinite liberty, and safety in which one can rest and deeply breathe. It is in essence, a heavenly country. The artist used acrylics, including neon acrylics to create the work, which summons pastoral scenes and envisions impossibly gorgeous sunsets. This painting is futuristic in that it is not about what is, but what is to come, an imagined vision of peace, soulful rest, and exploration.
