ABOUT THE ARTWORK
There are many games yet none so enthralling, engrossing and exciting in my opinion as chess is. It's a game of strategy and power not of chance or speed. There are power dynamics at play if you think of it. It is also one of those activities that imply the existence of two players whose attention is on the same thing, and along with it that of a shared present, even when you chose to leave days between moves, to keep going, even to make your move in the other's absence. It implies, in my opinion, a Me and a You, more perhaps than any other activity. This is a violet monochrome because that's the color of shadow, the color of the night sky when lit by the lights of a great city, the color of mystery perhaps, and, of course, the color of power.
