This painting was inspired by the river Shannon, the longest river in Ireland, the waves are depicted in heavy oil texture. The pod like structure, is an imaginative painting studio. In reality I live by the beach where my studio is. This painting came from my subconscious. It is a Notion of blissfulness.

BIOGRAPHY - Rebecca Carroll Rebecca Carroll is an internationally exhibited artist who was born in Listowel, Ireland in 1964. She lives & works at her home / studio by Littor strand at the mouth of the Shannon Estuary, in Ireland. A prolific abstract painter, her works are created spontaneously from her subconscious. The essence of Rebecca's work depicts nature, and spirituality. She feels privileged to be an artist and considers it a noble ministry. Since she began painting professionally in 1998, Rebecca has had 20 solo exhibitions, more than 50 group shows. In 2020 Rebecca was winner of `Kerry Art & Dignity’ competition, there were up to four hundred entries, this was in conjunction with university hospital Kerry, funded by Irish Hospice foundation. In 2007 alone she had three different bodies of work in exhibitions in Washington, California and New York. In 2014 Rebecca was selected as one of five Irish artists who were offered a one month residency at the prestigious Abu Dhabi Art Hub in United Arab Emerites. "inspirational, illuminating and transcendent of the ordinary." Frank Lewis, Ex-Gallery Owner & Broadcaster stated in a show at his gallery that "Rebecca Carroll strips away everything to get to the soul. And yet the hallmark of her paintings is their variety and richness". In October 2007 Rebecca completed eleven commissioned 6ft x 3ft paintings for the University of Limerick. As a result of this significant project she was the featured artist on the Irish television programme Nationwide. In 2008 Rebecca completed a 27 painting and print instillation in the then new trauma ward in the Regional Hospital in Limerick. Carmel O'Sullivan, senior ward sister says, "...There are many factors which combine and contribute to a holistic healing environment....the use of Rebecca's art contributes hugely to this environment and communicates with patients on many levels." In 2004 she published her first book on painting and poetry titled 'Sunny Spells, Scattered Showers', in collaboration with poet Mary Kennelly. Rebecca is currently working on a second book with Mary - poet & English artist Susan Hitching to be launched on Culture night September 2023.
