A lifetime of inspiration, a work in progress… An artist who got lost along the way but recently encountered his artistic spirit. Having studied Illustration & Design in the late 80's, chose a different career path only to find my way back towards the passion within since early childhood. Creating works of art stemming at times from a source of inspiration or mindset deeply personal to me. Flirting at times with Abstract Expressionism, if labels need affixing. Influences and inspirations can be found anywhere but two artists in particular have made an impact, Van Gogh for his tenacity and Clyfford Still for his conviction and integrity in regards to his body of work. Like most artists setting out to create, I usually go in with an idea of what I would like to achieve and then abandon myself to the creative process. I let the transformation occur into what will hopefully be a gratifying end result. I paint mainly/only in acrylic and because acrylic dries quickly, it requires you to paint in the "now" and any addition made to the work later is left to serendipity and how I will feel the moment I return to it. There are paintings I have begun and not completed, where I enjoyed the direction they were heading but am almost certain they will not be travelling the same path when I return to them. That is the beauty of the creative process that allows me to progress as an artist. My works are mainly produced using a palette knife and sometimes with the addition of glazes. I prefer the texture that is created by applying the paint in this manner. I want my work to be both a visual and tactile experience for the viewer. My work is abstract and can be inspired by a song lyric, emotional state of mind or recent travels but once the paint hits the canvas, the inspirational journey begins and ends with the last stroke. Even the title, when one is provided remains abstract for the viewer thus allowing them to appropriate the work to their own now experience.
