Art Description

Painting: Acrylic, Oil on Canvas.

The painting "A history of everything" was painted in response to the title of a book cover the Artist’s daughter aged 7 made, (her history of everything never was completed) but the title intrigued Parr, both the enormity of the statement and her daughters childhood innocence in naming her book.
In the series Spatial history, Parr revisits places and journeys that are often defined by emotion. Tensions between past and present, joy and saudade, presence and absence continue to inhabit her visual language, expressed through a set of coded references and metaphors which she explores through the balance of chance and control during the painting process. She uses pallet knife, brush and sponge building up layers and washing away in a process that becomes as important to remove as to add, a kind of reverberation of relationship with the canvas of addition and subtraction, push and pull.
Parr intends to create something that is ambiguous, moving, chimerical, organic and elemental.
Signed and dated on the side of the canvas the painting is ready to hang. The canvas is deep edged 4.4cm which shows small signs of the working process to the canvas side.
