ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This work is based upon a photograph I took from a black girl in 2014. The inspiration and meaning has to do with the Black Lives Matter movement that was happening in 2020. As a white artist I sometimes feel we need absolution for the subconscious or direct racism we might have subjugated black people to over time. The purple colour was taken from the stole that is being worn by catholic priests and together with the golden cross serves as a reference to absolution and reconciliation.
