Steven Cousens is an award winning artist that explores different mediums to produce his original and striking works. Steven grew up on Vancouver Island BC where he attended Art school and began his career as an artist. Originally working as a potter focusing mainly on functional ware. Steven soon began to explore more sculptural ways of expression through clay. Moving to Las Vegas and studying with renowned potter and clay artist Tom Coleman was where Stevens work evolved and was consequently carried in many galleries as well as having a feature article in the international ceramic arts magazine Clay Times. From Las Vegas Steven and his family moved to Portland Oregon where he was an active member of the art community continuing to show his work as well as teach classes and workshops. His style is inspired by such artists as his mentor Tom Coleman, Hans coper, Cy Twombly and Robert Motherwell. Steven now lives in Bellingham Washington where he currently works out of his home studio. His main focus is painting in oil, acrylic, and pastel. His unique approach to these mediums continues to be evident relying on bold color, strong composition, surface texture and mark making.
