A monolithic form rises from the ground plane, casting a long shadow that defines the direction of light and establishes a strong sense of presence within the composition. Maurizio Valch is a contemporary painter working within architectural minimal abstract painting, exploring the genesis of metaphysical territories. His work investigates landscapes where individual consciousness appears to emerge directly from the continuity of the earth. Rather than depicting historical landscapes, cultural memory, or the ruins of civilization, his paintings explore an earlier threshold: the moment when territory, presence, and awareness begin to take form together. Working through a visual language inspired by geological structures — horizons, strata, tectonic segments and monolithic anchors — Valch constructs spatial environments that function as architectural mappings of consciousness. Within these territories, subtle incised stairways introduce the human scale, marking the emergence of the individual within the landscape. His paintings therefore do not represent architecture built by culture, but structures that seem to arise from the earth itself, as if culture were a geological expression of consciousness rather than its origin. Through disciplined compositions defined by structural clarity, vertical tension, and restrained chromatic fields, Valch develops large-scale paintings conceived as environments of contemplation where silence, structure, and presence coexist. Since 2024 his practice has focused primarily on large-scale acrylic paintings (48 × 60 in / 120 × 160 cm), alongside smaller formats used as a field of structural research and compositional investigation. Valch has exhibited in Spain, Italy, and France, and his works are held in private collections across 19 countries.
