ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Cul-de-sac is part of the Gem Series, consisting of 30" x 30" acrylic-shaped paintings in response to 20th-century geometric abstraction. My artistic practice embraces an interplay between reductive elements and abundant expressions. Implementing inspiration from the Geometric Abstract movement, the Gem Series selectively incorporates defining features like hard edges, geometric forms, and shaped canvases. Contrarily, I introduce symbolic colors adorned with patterns reminiscent of domestic spaces, from the Arts and Crafts movement to the 1960s and 1970s, extending to designers like the House of Hackney. This collection underscores my fascination with the rich history of wallpaper design, celebrating the exchange of patterns found in diverse design movements.

My geometric-shaped paintings embrace contemporary art practices of relevant pluralism. The artwork is an intersection of fine art, architecture, and design, referencing underlying themes in art history and mixing and merging concepts. Admiring past practices of 20th-century geometric abstraction, I recognize and challenge the movement for its reductive strains and return to the initial discourse that led to the investigation. My paintings include symbolic colors and the illusion of space that otherwise would be excluded from the movement. The edges of my artwork define a rotation of deep and shallow areas, navigated by an atmospheric apparition creating the impression of space. Incorporating ornate motifs and flat planes of color, I invite the viewer to pause - to linger, accompanying the rhythm of my daily happenings.
