Stefan Stettner is a painter of strong colours and strong shapes. His Pictures are actually (almost) always pictures of people. Sometimes he calls the portraits, but they are not individual portraits, even though he uses models. In his work Stettner tries to capture the quintessence of people´s inner and outer sensitivities. He depicts people through his colours and prototipical nature of his figures in a way that is intended to make us think about aour very existence. I was fascinated by his unmistakable handling of the difficult-to-master possibilities of such absolutely striking colours he uses. Each individual surface he paints over six, eight or more times to find exactly the magic of colours he needs for his paintings along with the black borderd forms. You can imagine how difficult this is, considering that, when it comes to painters, we talk about their differentiated colours. In other words, the mixture of different shades to create a very specific one. With an impressive consistency Stettner follows his artistic path since the 1970ies and yet still manages to develop further and evan further. He has created his very own universe where he assignes differentiated meanings to the colours he uses. Ludwig Zerull art-critic 1945-2012 Hannover.
