This painting was done en plein air as the sun was going down over the Whitby Harbour lagoon. I was interested in capturing the reflections in the water as seen through the shafts of light peeking through the dark clouds just after the sun had dipped below the horizon. It was a challenge to keep up with the scene as it would change every few seconds.

"There are few more satisfying and emotive experiences than making marks on a piece of paper... The process of becoming an artist in the traditional sense is embracing the set of disciplines whereby one learns to give his marks greater tangible and universal meaning to a wider audience over a longer period of time"
