ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Vermeer, Velasquez, Zurbaran, Caravaggio and Van Dyke are some of the Baroque influences that have driven this and other images. Each painting is meticulously planned through careful observation, drawings and sketches and digital images. The arrangement of the drapery requires a measured and considered approach which can take many days of thought and comparison. This painting uses an offset compositional arrangement and places the shadow on the right pushing the lighter side of the image out of the pictorial frame. Painted from life many changes were needed as the light (Winter, Jan-Feb) changed at different points of the day. Emphasis has been placed on the subtle reflections which shift across the interior of the fabric. I hope the viewer can meditate through engagement with the movement of folds and ripples of fabric and see the painting as a timeless exploration of material within a historical context. The artists I listed at the start have been one of the reasons for my selection of this subject. Painted in quality artists oil paint on a high quality Belgium oil primed linen surface.

SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I am a painter based in East London (Hackney). I have a small studio and work from arrangements of objects. I usually base my ideas around disposable items, fabric and plastic/containers. Referencing a number of artists from different periods I tend to work from direct observation and use a limited palette. I also sometimes employ and create carefully corriographed photographs and use a camera obscura for compositional purposes. Subjects are selected for their reduced colour. I am interested in ambiguous arrangements of objects and spatial illusion.
