ABOUT THE ARTWORK
DETAILS AND DIMENSIONS
SHIPPING AND RETURNS

I view painting as an emotional outlet, both for me as an artist but also for you as the viewer. My portraits often tend to depict sadness, anger, hurt. People have asked me why I don't paint happy, smiling faces, but right now in my life, those feelings just don't ring true. I can't paint what I do...

Corey Moortgat is an acrylic artist from Jacksonville, Florida. She’s explored a variety of media throughout her life—paint, pencil, collage, photography—just to name a few. She graduated college with a BFA in Painting in 1994, then went on to earn her Master’s degree in Art Therapy in 1996. She’s worked as an art therapist, an art teacher, a custom framer, an art store manager, and currently works as an artistic mentor at an online art school. She's written a number of articles for magazines, and in 2007, she published a book called The Art of Personal Imagery about using personal and meaningful imagery in your artwork. Corey has been busy in recent years raising three children, but picked up her paintbrush again in 2015 and hasn’t put it down again since! She has since built a business painting commissioned portraits of both people and their furry companions, as well as exploring her own inner voice and creating pieces of art to sell.
