ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I walked past the local allotments in October and saw them afresh. It came together - the textures, colours, people, shapes, hope, light, movement, promise, abundance. The very Britishness of it. I commited to drawing / painting the allotments for a year. Its a struggle - weeding out what I dont like and planting what I do like - into my paintings. It feels like an adventure - a process. Often with my paintings I rip and sew and repaint. This piece has really been through the mill! collage and rips, thread and sewing. Thick paint and chalk give it depth. A big painting in a small package. With a good mount and frame it would really draw you in. Enough information to give - enough to leave to the imagination. Bordering on reality / abstraction - thats my sweet spot and this is there. Now let's see what happens when the beans start to grow.
