ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I now live in the South of Czech Republic, and we can see the Dachstein Mountian Range in the Austrian Alps from the hill near our house. In Winter this entire landscape is covered in snow but on this hot August day even the peaks were bare. The horses roam freely in the valleys and they are used to an occasional group of hikers wandering past. They add to the peace and the calmness of the scene. Many fine layers of acrylic glaze build up the subtle shapes and colours of the mountain peaks. I like to think that this recreates the shimmering effect of warm air and the blurring of boundaries due to great distances. I think my style is somewhere between realism and subtle impressionism. My paintings are not meant to look like photographs. They should reflect the atmosphere of the scene. Atmospheric realism is the phrase which I like best. My paintings look best when framed and properly lit from above to allow the light to reflect back to the viewer through the many subtle glazes.

Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I was born in Sligo, Ireland in 1967. I now live with my family in South Bohemia, Czech but I also return regularly to Sligo to be with my father and to enjoy the Atlantic coastline. I paint in both locations. I have worked in over 30 countries overseas mostly in challenging emergency and humanitarian environments. I have had discs removed in my neck and lower back and due to nerve issues I must now paint with my right wrist and arm in a fixed brace. But painting is my physical and mental therapy and it gives me much joy to share my art with you.
