About The Artwork

During his concerts, Ludovico Einaudi does not allow clapping between pieces...there is a stillness between symphony. This painting was inspired by his "Elegy for the Arctic", which I listened to frequently during its creation. I had painted a really great pair of eyes...yet THE VOICE said to me that something was wrong. I watched the video (made with Greenpeace) for Elegy, and there he is, at his piano, on a raft surrounded by icebergs, with a great glacier calving behind him. As he boards, the last thing he said to the director struck me. Einaudi is a great artist, and he is not about to have a director shout "camera, action!" in his ear. Before boarding , he removes his earbud, saying simply, "I will wait for the silence." What was wrong with those eyes? They made him look like that head from Mad Magazine, Alfred E. Newman, appearing in the night sky behind Charlie Brown, "What, me worry?" And so, I closed his act which ushered in that moment of transformation -the instant when radical inspiration arrives and the painting changes, becoming suddenly inexpectedly, right. In tune. Silent. He's hearing the silence now. This is an original, signed oil painting on gold-standard belgian linen. I used select oil colors to insure high standards of lightfastness and range of color. It is framed with an elegant hand crafted lattice frame which is waxed to reveal the beauty of natural wood.
