ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The actual turning to my current theme, All About Color began the day President Biden was safely inaugurated in office. As saturated color poured into the work, my understanding of Rothko, Albers and Redon deepened. Sensing that they’d come through their own deep times of isolation and darkness, they turned their work to depict the cosmic realm through the predominance of color. Given our now long experience with the Covid pandemic, After sheltering in place for over a year, and entering the depth of unimagined confinement and solitude, I’m filling canvas and paper with luxuriously pure color. The learning gleaned from abstract expressionist and colorist John Ferren’s year of color study at Queens College had been deeply enriched by years of travel to sun drenched lands. I now announce the budding series All About Color as my Late Style.
