Several years ago I was riding a bus out of Lahore on my way to a camping trip in the Karakoram mountains. Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Doug began painting and drawing when he was ten years old. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts he worked as a successful advertising layout artist and award-winning copywriter. Doug later emigrated to Los Angeles and became a member of two well-regarded art associations, the Palos Verdes Artists Group and the Torrance Artists Guild. He works in traditional oils or acrylics on canvas, mixed media, photography, and the newer digital art tools to create images that reflect his warm imagination. “I want my paintings to invite the viewer into a world that still has some innocence and charm. Some of my paintings are in a style of ‘surreal realism’. There is a certain realism to the painting, but there is also a dream-like element as well. The goal is always to give the viewer an image that leaves them with a smile.” Doug has sold a number of paintings to collectors and corporations and has won several awards for both his painting and photography. He now lives and paints in Sugar Land, Texas and is a member of the Texas Artists Group.
