About The Artwork

Remote Epochs Symbols From the first glance, symbols in the paintings by Krzysztof Pająk sink into consciousness and unconsciousness. They are both magical and exotic, rooted in the African, american and Oceanic folk tradition. The told story and systematic divisions- since these pictures cannot be merely interpreted as impressions - encourage us to solve a riddle presented by the author, to guess if only partially, the message conveyed. This painting is based on the symbols originating in remote epochs, beginnigs of human artistic attempts. The form of human artistic attempts. The form of individual symbols division dwells on pop-art and comic strips. Connecting magical elements of early cultures with the objects and products typical for our technical civilization, results-as I sense it-in achieving a joking mood. Deformations, turned around human figures, as well as unexpected crossing of the symbol border lines, create cheerful feeling of freedom and harmony in this imagined world. The pictures within this group are most open to the changing world and man's efforts in it. The canvases depict fantastic cities, different in form, perfect, elaborate, showing all the features of the dream come true, are intriguing and resemble computer work. The author seems to negate-through this very likeness-the two coordinates scheme. The drawn by hand lines mark the facades of the buildings of all historical eras, crowded and dissolving one into the other, express the consent for co-existence against the necessity of a higher rank. The series of pictures devoted to biblical topics are maintained in resonant colors and harmony juxtaposed to the grandness of the presented elements. Visible splashes of color, against a monochromatic palette, illuminate the composition. EXIT2(50)-2002 New ART in Poland Joanna Owidzka An artist and curator, lives and works in Warsaw
