As a child, I visited Arcosanti in the Arizonan desert and learned of Paolo Soleri and his vision for a better way of living. I have recently been revisiting his architectural forms, as they incorporate many geometric elements that intrigue me. This painting is an ode to his work and to the desert.

I grew up in the American Southwest, exposed to desert landscapes and modern architecture. My father, a civil engineer, took me on tours of jails and prisons in my youth simultaneous to my religious, celestial grooming in enclosed institutions. This exposure to vast landscapes and constrained, invasive dwellings continues to shape my artistic career. I am intrigued by the contradiction of being in a place yet not being the place, that there is always a link and separation between structure and freedom.
