About The Artwork

This work was inspired by street art and graffiti world around me in late 90s and early 2000s when my art studio was in world famous, graffiti covered old factory buildings block in NYC known mostly as 5PTZ or Outdoor Aerosol Museum or even Phat Phactory at earlier times. It was located in then industrial LIC area of West Queens. I named the complex the 'Crane Street Studios' for the fact that aside from colorful outside it was also keeping over 200 artists working in art studios. Artists existence inside was easy not to notice otherwise. The place was graffiti mecca of NY and East Coast. It was an attraction to many visitors and turist tours. Building was a prop for many movies and music videos. My meditation circle on the top of the building was used for ending scene in the movie 'Now you see me' (I had a habit to paint big circles at unexpected places). There I organised numerous art events to establish the name of 'Crane St. Studios' and it stuck along other names the place was known as. Spending more than a decade in dynamic and unique grassroots and street-art enclave influenced me in many ways, therefore street stile comes out at times, as in this piece. It is mixed media work, painted with acrylic and aerosol cans on rigid and stabile gator board 1/2" thick with additional 1/2" spacers from the wall to give it floating look. The board is found object from materials list, it was used in NY Marathon campaign and I used some of lettering and words already there, you can see them bleeding through layers of paint. DIY hanging bracket and 1/2" spacers for floating look installed at the back. Ready to hang.
