About The Artwork

I once became friends with an honorable and driven career lady. Upon getting to know each other, we quickly realized our differences and incompatibilities. She noted my peculiar traits but she was nonetheless very accepting of me. And so we kept meeting up. She observed that I would eat mostly junk food while chilling at home. So when she was working, she would sometimes order some expensive and healthy foods to my condo, and message me that it’s being delivered to my door in a few minutes. Wow. That’s so kind of her! One of our main differences was that I prefer to rot away by myself in my dark bedroom, or perhaps take a walk in a quiet park. Meanwhile, she prefers going to a crowded and expensive restaurant that makes her feel as if she’s someone important. I was hesitant to join her at first and declined her invitations. One day, while she was at my condominium, I was feeling good and asked her to go out to a fancy new breakfast place. When we arrived, the place was fully packed with loud and obnoxious extroverts. I hated it there and she could tell right away from my face. She asked me: “What do you think of this place?” “I hate it here,” I said. “Wanna leave?” she asked. “Yes.” I replied. And we both left right away. I realized that, despite our differences, she was happy to accommodate me and adapt the situation to where I felt comfortable. We left that loud breakfast place and found an empty Fish & Chips restaurant next to it, where we ate a delicious lasagna and fish and chips. This painting captures that moment.

I am Amin Eftegarie, a self-thought artist from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I was born in Iran but my family and I left shortly after my birth. I think my creativity comes from challenges in my childhood. It forced me to come up with many customized solutions to problems that others weren’t facing. Above all else, I enjoy being in tune with my friends and family and reading about finance and biology. I also volunteer as a contributor for Wikipedia and Wiktionary from time to time. I’ve visited 25 countries and many of my paintings were inspired by moments during my travels.
