ABOUT THE ARTWORK
BRIDGES continues a series where I was most interested in composition, gesture, mark-making, color, or lack of color, energetic brushstrokes, balance and composition. Much of my inspiration comes from an eye towards the past, thinking of mainly the American abstract painters working in the mid 20th century, the pre world-war II German painters, Bauhaus, and the De Stijl art movement.

I have been painting my entire life, which has in most ways defined my life. Expressing myself through the medium of painting has allowed me a visual platform to share my firm belief that less can certainly be more. In my non-figurative work I am most interested in shape, balance, composition – all of which I achieve a pleasant tension causing a sense of meditative solitude. And it is this meditative solitude that runs through all my work. Colors, and how they work together is also a major concern. A major influence on my present work centers on architectural themes present in large cities, namely New York city and London.
